Canning for Beginners

Canning is actually a pretty simple process for anyone who has not ever done it. I have done a little research on canning and found that Ball makes a 3 Step process that is as easy as pie.

1.  Prepare Your Gear

  • 21 quart Waterbath Canner with a canning rack
  • Ball Jars
  • Sauce pan
  • Measuring cups
  • Kitchen Knives
  • Large Spoon
  • Dish Rags
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Cutting board
  • Ladle
  • Non – metallic spatual
  • Don’t forget all the fresh produce right out of your garden.
  1. Select Your Recipe

You might try the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving or freshpreserving.com by Ball. Ball also has several different mixes and pectins available that you can try. Fill your jar with your creations, then remove air from the jar and wipe clean.

  1. Preserving Your Food

Next you will need to fill your jars and then, simmer the jars that are covered under at least 1 inch of water. The boiling times may vary depending on recipe and altitude. Last turn off your heat and let the jars stand in water for 5 minutes. Remove jars and cool upright on rack or towel for 12 hours.

You are an Offical Canner!!
